These La Boîte gourmet blends feature rare spices sourced from the best spots in the world. La Boîte’s owner and spice master, Lior Lev Sercarz, opened the shop after a career as a professional chef at three-Michelin-starred restaurants, including Daniel Boulud’s flagship “Daniel” in New York City. La Boîte supplies to the finest restaurants in America such as Eric Ripert’s “Le Bernardin.” Additionally, Lior has created blends that can be easily integrated into home cooking — even if you have no experience with spices.

Brava Chef Travis selected the following blends because they can be effortlessly sprinkled onto proteins, veggies, baked goods, and more. Below learn more about each blend and the recommended applications for each.

Salt and Pepper

To start the set, we selected upscale takes on essential seasonings: salt and pepper. Restaurants often use items such as these to “finish” dishes to add depth of flavor and crunch.

Smoked Salt N.8 ($21): Conjure the smokiness of a barbecue using a sprinkle of this cold-smoked Maldon sea salt. Use it on anything you would ordinarily throw on the grill such as beef, fish, or roasted veggies. It’s also wonderful on eggs and leafy salads.

Recommended Brava Recipes:

Pierre Poivre N.7 ($15): This blend of eight different peppers is described as “tangy, sweet, sour, and floral.” Use it on steak, pork, or lamb or sprinkled onto eggs, fish, or salad dressings.

Breakfast and Sweets

The following two spice blends can be added to most sweet breakfast applications including french toast, pancakes, muffins, and even sprinkled onto yogurt parfaits. Try them in cookie and cake batter too and/or sprinkled on top of iced baked goods.

Mishmish N.33 ($21): Sweet crystallized honey, golden saffron, and tart lemon combine for a blend you can sprinkle onto yogurt and granola parfaits, fresh fruits, pancakes, and even the rims of margarita glasses.

Recommended Brava Recipes:

Reims N.39 ($15): This warming blend of crystallized honey, star anise, and cardamom can be used in place of cinnamon in most applications. Though it’s incredible in oatmeal, granola, and french toast, try it on savory foods like pork and veggies too.

Worldly Tastes

Take your tastebuds on a trip across the world. Though you may have not tried these exact spice blends before, they feature ingredients and flavors that are commonly used in home cooking.

Sheba N.40 ($15): Paprika, cayenne, ginger, garlic, and cumin come together for a take on Ethiopia’s traditional berbere. Use it in beef, eggs, pasta, soup, veggies — especially potatoes, onions, and peppers.

Recommended Brava Recipes:

Bernise ($15): Tarragon, onion, and vinegar take on the classic French flavor of Béarnaise sauce. Try this tart, herby blend on fish, shellfish, grilled meats, salads, and lentils/beans. Try whisking it with mayo for a quick aioli for french fries and steak. It pairs exceptionally well with butter and ghee too.
